How much of a repair or replacement for a Auto Gearbox?
The cost of fixing or replacing the transmission varies between make and model. With basic repairs costing between $100 up to $500+ and extensive repairs and replacement costing between $1200 up to $5000+, especially if complete overhaul or replacement is required for the automatic gearbox in Singapore.
The automatic gearbox that is fitted to your car is what drives, from the engine to the wheels. These gearbox can come in many types, including;
  • Manual
  • Automatic
  • Semi-Automatic

Symptoms of a automatic gearbox problem
  • Engine light on dashboard
  • Vehicle struggling to accelerate or raise engine speed without any change in vehicle speed
  • Whirling, grinding or clumping noise from car
  • Shuddering while driving around the car
  • Vehicle has no drive or can not pick gears
Test engine light coming on vehicles fitted with gearbox while transmitting. This can be followed by noise or unusual noises coming from the car. In this situation, it is advised not to drive the vehicle and have it checked as soon as possible, because it can stop without notice at any time.

Strange sounds can be hard to identify when driving
Gearbox sounds but they can typically be described as moaning, clunking or high-pitched humming noise while driving, depending on road speeds.
It is not advisable to drive with such symptoms and may cause more harm if the vehicle is not checked as soon as possible.

Hesitation
When the vehicle hesitates to take off from a stop or the speed of the engine increases but the speed of the vehicle remains steady or slows down, this can suggest a gearbox issue or clutch on manual vehicles.

Vehicle won't pick gears or go into gear
When you can't pick a gear, or if the vehicle is in gear but doesn't drive, this means that there could be a simple issue like low gearbox fluid, or something more serious – like a failed clutch or valve frame.

Leaking fluid
When you find that your vehicle is leaking fluid, it is recommended that you check it as soon as possible in order to avoid damage to major components and to make sure that the driving is safe.

Transmission inspection
Our mechanics inspect the vehicle for any leakage or damage to the gearbox, check the gearbox fluid and clutch fluid level and condition (if applicable) and examine the vehicle for proper operation.

Gearbox repairs or replacement
A repair or replacement of the components should be carried out depending on what the vehicle needs.
The mechanic then upgrades the transmission fluid, clutches the fluid (if required) and conducts a complete system check to ensure the vehicle is in complete operating condition.
A road test will then be conducted to ensure that the problem has been rectified by the repair / replacement, and a final visual inspection to ensure that no fluid escapes from the vehicle.

Why is it important to have your gearbox inspected or replacement?
It is not only important for the safety of you and your family as well as other motorists to have your gearbox checked as soon as an problem is identified – but it can also save you money in the long run by avoiding more harm to the sensitive internal components of the gearbox.

This can be costly to repair and can require a full reconstruction if there is no early diagnosis of the problem.
